High Park here in Toronto is known for its remnant of native oak savannah which features many beautiful big old red, black and white oaks — ie: both the wavy-edged and pointy-edged leaf kind. They were devastated by a gypsy moth infestation in 2021, a really end-of-days experience to walk through, but have recovered amazingly well. Some still appear thinly leaved and a number have succumbed to the high winds since then, but perhaps that’s also an effect of the intermittent droughts on them too. At any rate, they’re still quite magnificent and peering up through their canopy is a treat.
