To me watercolour is all about painting the light.  The pleasure is when it works and the agony is when it doesn’t.  I work to find a balance between abstraction and a recognizable image, which is an urge to express how I see what’s in front of me.  I love that it comes directly from me and my brain, down through my fingers, and out through the brush.  Watercolour painting is a ridiculously unforgiving medium, but I seem to love it’s constrictions.

So far I’m quite committed to a small format — mostly 9″ x 12″ — and think of them as jewel-size.  But occasionally work slightly larger (12″ x 16″) to explore having a little more elbow room, so to speak.

In my background is time at the Ontario College of Art and the Banff Centre for the Arts (winter studio program), being a founding member at an artist-run space, and working in the fine arts and festival management world.
